What Is Reconstitution?
Lyophilised (freeze-dried) peptides must be dissolved in a sterile liquid before use. This process is called reconstitution. The most commonly used diluent in research settings is bacteriostatic water (BW) — sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol to prevent microbial growth.
What You Need
- Lyophilised peptide vial
- Bacteriostatic water
- Insulin syringe or 1ml syringe
- Alcohol swabs
Step-by-Step Process
- Calculate your desired concentration using the CitySupps Reconstitution Calculator.
- Wipe the rubber stopper of both vials with an alcohol swab and allow to air dry.
- Draw the calculated volume of bacteriostatic water into your syringe.
- Inject the BW slowly into the peptide vial, directing the liquid down the side of the glass — never directly onto the powder.
- Gently swirl (do not shake) until the powder is fully dissolved. The solution should be clear.
- Label the vial with the date of reconstitution.
Storage After Reconstitution
- Store at 2–8°C (standard refrigerator)
- Keep away from light
- Use within 28 days
- Do not freeze the reconstituted solution
